How to drape a saree??

Hi everyone, before I should begin to tell you the styles of saree you also need to know the ways of wearing a saree. The picture below gives you an idea of how many styles you can drape your saree. I will try and give a description of some!

Now, It's time to explain how to wear them! Are you all ready?

Simple Saree ( the 6th in the image)

Steps:

  • First you have to determine which shoes or sandals to wear. The height of your heels is significant because that is where the bottom of the sari should reach. SOme sarees may be transparent so you need to wear an underskirt too. The shoes must be elegant, not a compulsion to match with the saree. It can be golden or bronze or silver sandals.
  • Now, hold the saree so the fall is facing you. In case  you don't know what a fall is, it is a long piece of unadorned cotton. Then, Wrap the Saree around your waist and tuck it in once. The pallu whic his the decorated side should be outside.
  •  Then, wrap it around again, but this type do not tuck it in. Pull the pallu until it is as long as your outstretched arm when your arm is by your side. You can keep it the size of you convenience. This is because its you who is going to carry it. Tuck the pallu over your shoulder. Then Tighten the saree and tuck it in 3 to 4 inches to the leftof your belly button.
  • Now comes the fun part - Pleating the saree. Stretch your left hand and hold the cloth with your thumb and pinkie finger. Wind the cloth with your right hand through the thumb and the pinkie holding with alternating fingers. You should end with 5-6 pleats or maybe more depending on you hand size.
  • Tuck in you pleats. Its a great idea to pin the pleats together so that way they stay in place the whole day. Maybe pin it 20 Cm below the waist.
  • Finally, drape the remaining fabric around yourself from left to right, and then over your shoulder. Eventually secure the end portion on your shoulder with a safety pin.

SO Now you can drape a simple saree!!! Please leave your comments :)
